In the lead up to the elections, healthcare remains a top issue for Americans. The cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, comprehensive health insurance, women’s reproductive rights, protecting Medicaid, and much more are on the ballot.
When we cast our vote this November, we should make sure that the right to quality healthcare is protected and strengthened for all Americans.
- Can I get access to quality health insurance? Having good health insurance coverage is a major concern for most Americans. Under the Affordable Care Act, millions of lower income Americans gained coverage. The expansion of Medicaid brought millions more Americans under the umbrellas of health insurance. In 2023, the national uninsured rate dropped to a historic low of 7.7%.
- Can I as a senior afford prescription drugs that I need? The cost of prescription drugs, especially for Medicare recipients, is something that we, and especially our seniors, should never have to worry about. Medicare has now capped the monthly cost of insulin at $35. Recommended vaccines have been made free for seniors. Starting 2025, out-of-pocket costs will be capped at $2,000 for Medicare recipients.
- Can I as a woman have the right to make my own reproductive choices? Today, following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, nearly half the states in the country have bans or restrictions in place on a woman’s right to choose.
- Can my family afford health insurance premiums? Today, with cost-sharing subsidies extended under the American Rescue Plan Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, millions of Americans are saving an average of $2,400 per family on premiums. Healthcare premiums have been eliminated for people with incomes at or below 150% of the federal poverty level.
