The Healthcare Education Project deeply mourns the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, an icon of the civil rights movement and champion of social justice. Rev. Jackson fought his whole life for the rights and dignity of Black people and all those who are marginalized by discrimination and systemic injustice. A tireless advocate for working people, Rev. Jackson fought for better jobs and wages for workers and was a strong ally of labor unions. For Rev. Jackson, health equity was a core part of the fight for justice, highlighting it as a human right and emphasizing that the poorest people are “dying from lack of access” to healthcare, with the highest rates of infant mortality and the lowest life expectancy.
The mission of the Healthcare Education Project is to protect and expand access to quality and affordable healthcare justice for all. We honor the legacy and mission of Rev. Jackson as we carry forward in our mission to end injustice in healthcare in communities all around New York State.
