For 25 years, the Healthcare Education Project (HEP) been a forceful advocate for quality, affordable healthcare and evolved into one of the nation’s most influential advocacy voices.
As a unique labor-management initiative, HEP has launched successful campaigns to expand healthcare access, strengthen New York’s hospitals and nursing homes and transform the state’s healthcare delivery system. In addition to fighting for high-quality healthcare for all New Yorkers, HEP has also expanded its reach to Washington, D.C. to advocate against federal cuts.
In 1999, HEP was conceived to push for funding for the landmark Family Health Plus insurance plan, and the very next year launched a “Cover Every Child” campaign to boost enrollment in New York City’s Child Health Plus program. Since then, HEP has supported the passage of healthcare legislation, driven health insurance enrollment, hosted free screening campaigns, and fought to protect critical programs like Medicaid.
HEP began as a powerful advocacy organization in Washington, D.C. and Albany, but has since grown to support faith leaders, patient groups and advocates in local communities across New York, ensuring that our work is most impactful to New York’s underserved communities.
