March 1, 2021
March is National Nutrition Month—a time to reflect on our eating habits and making sure that we have well-balanced diets and our giving our bodies the fuel and resources they need to function at their best.
Tips on eating healthy:
- Limit the amount of sugar, sodium, and saturated fat you consume
- Focus on eating foods high in fiber, protein, and healthy fats (like nuts and avocados)
- Make sure your diet includes a lot of fresh produce
- When eating meat and fish, limit red meat such as beef and eat more chicken and salmon
- Try going one day each week without eating meat (such as “Meatless Monday”)
- When consuming grains, look for grains that are whole wheat, high in fiber, or protein, such as farro, quinoa, and certain pastas
- Avoid takeout! Cooking for yourself is both healthy and more affordable
