HEP Statement On The 2024 General Election

December 3, 2024

With a new administration poised to take office, and a new party in control of Congress, it is clear that change is coming to Washington. Our political leaders must urgently address the provision of healthcare, which is critically important to the health and well-being of our country. We have important questions for the new administration:

Will you strengthen health insurance programs that cover low-income families, people with disabilities, mothers and children? Medicaid reimbursements already do not cover the full cost of care. Cutting those payments further will cause staffing shortages and result in fewer resources and services for patients. We hope the federal government appreciates these acute needs and will commit to fully funding Medicaid.

Millions of Americans are insured by the Affordable Care Act, and 130 million with preexisting conditions are protected by its provisions. Will these people see their only source of affordable and comprehensive health care come to an end? Or will the new federal government commit to protecting a popular program that has continued to grow, with a record 21 million Americans enrolling in an ACA health plan in 2024?

The Healthcare Education Project and our coalition partners work every day to ensure that the most disadvantaged communities have the healthcare they need. We will continue to fight for our healthcare institutions, healthcare workers and the communities we serve. It is our sincere hope that the new administration join and support these efforts.
